Atheists: What does this bible verse imply to you?
swordofthespirit2 asked:
Not all atheists feel they have to attack someone that may indeed stand for something but for you who do, how do you feel about this bible verse found in my King James bible? “And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea”. Mark 9:42

It sounds kind of mean. Why does God want to attack people? When people attack him, why doesn’t he “turn the other cheek”?

That sounds like a threat of disproportional punishment.

The meaning is clear: Drown anyone who offends christian children.

Why are you offended by atheists? Someone that offends you should be someone that runs into your church screaming obscenities at your religion.

It means christian believers are so ********* that they want to kill atheists in an unconventional ways, merely because they don’t agree with the same doctrines.

It sounds to me like the men who wrote the Bible wanted anyone with a different viewpoint to be put to death before they could cause other believers to question their beliefs.
In other words, kill the infidels.
So much for that commandment against murdering.

Just so sad for desperate christians!!
The argument that anyone that disagrees with me proves I am right is just so self destructive and silly!!
Ask yourself why it is only Christians that get attacked and not the other religions?!!!!
Do you not recognise that Christians are provoking retaliation and repudiation for their terrible attitudes?!!
Perhaps if Christians stopped their intolerant, egotistical, **** filled and bigoted postings things might change!!
Perhaps if Christians stopped eschewing education, science, evolution works of fiction and much, much more things might change!!
Perhaps if Christians stopped being the only religion opposing human rights and persecuting gays, pro choice and so much more things might change!!
Perhaps if Christians stopped demanding freedom of religion whilst they deny it to all non Christians and persecute them things might change!! !!!
If Christians rediscovered the god of love and forgiveness and put aside all those terrible human emotions things would definitely change!!!!
Why are Christians so afraid of people who simply do not believe in any god?!!!! Surely it can only be because they are so afraid that atheist are right and they are wrong or it would not bother them!!!!!!
As soon as Christians rediscover the loving god and start acting like it the problem will cease!!!!

Here’s the NIV: “And if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around his neck.”
What Jesus is warning against is those who corrupt Christian children by causing them to sin. For example, someone who introduces a child to sexual immorality, thus bending their sexuality away from chastity, normal sexual interests, and capability for marriage, and toward a destructive sexual practice would cause that child to sin. That crime is so heinous as to emotionally cripple that child for life, and possibly to physically cause disease, injury, or death.
The link below gives an example.
I doubt if proselytizing the religion of atheism meets the criterion of causing one of these little ones who believe in Jesus to sin. Nevertheless, atheists should be cautious about moving from their false but modest claim of “no evidence for God” toward attempting to dissuade young believers who are forming their consciences in Christ from Christianity to the religion of atheism.
Cheers,
Bruce
