jrmrprkr I am fluent in Hebrew, Aramaic & Greek. Christians have copies of the originals. Because of persecutions religious texts were burned. Plus old copies decay and wear out. The NT was originally written in Aramaic. The Aramaic Peshitta text has been preserved. This Pastor was debating 2 translations of the Greek text so I had to use the Greek text for my rebuke (or refutation).

    Dividing Word….

    do you speak fluent greek?

are you saying that God can’t translate his words?

if the “originals” were the only inspired, and the “originals” dont exist anymore, then God was a liar when he said “my words shall not pass away.”

would you take that risk and call God a liar?

The Greek text really does say “being saved.” So the NKJV is more correct than the KJV at 1 Cor. 1:18. The Greek word is so-zo-men-ois (those being saved). The “men” from the Greek word means: “being.”

    Dividing Word….

The speaker is quoting about taking words away, adding words…but the original scripture was in Greek and Hebrew, neither of which many of us read.

SooperCooper54. I’m not sure if you were addressing me or not. But I agree with everything you said. The KJV onlyist folks are becoming religion unto themselves… and they clearly do not understand how we have come to have the Bible in any translation. Their arguments lead right back to Catholicism which they claim to detest. It’s probably ineffective to argue with them though. Any one who would burn a Bible is… playing right into the hands of Satan and his lies.

Great, another threat, veiled in the power of the holy roman catholic church, now Lutheranism, Calvinism. Wait, wasn’t the King James version coined out of a time of oppression of King Henry the VIII, but wasn’t well like because it was “authorized” by Act of Parliament. Be well you Christians with your authorized bible….

    SnooperCooper54. You are absolutely correct.

I’ve asked the KJV onlyists to tell me how the apocrypha got tossed out of the KJV. After all they quote scripture about how nothing should be taken away. Yet the fail to realize the KJV DID have the apocrypha. I guess it disappeared by magic. Of all the silly things Christians have done, this really stands out.

    SooperCooper54,

Very nicely said. God did indeed say He would preserve His word for us. It’s arrogance to say that the scholars from the 1600’s were somehow smarter than today’s. I also use KJV, NIV, NASB, NKJV, ESV.

I own the Living Bible and the Message, but I don’t take them as authoritative at all.

    Great post.

    crylinglion,

Satan is indeed up to the same old tactics.

I have some very wonderful Catholic friends. Where we disagree, we do it respectfully and we all know, that we are Christians because Jesus shed His blood for us, not for any machination of man.

The thing is, it’s misguided zeal. All Christians should have this zeal when talking about & defending God’s word against non-believers. But the problem is, satan is using old tactics on a newer generation of believers. Remember, Jesus said that a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand. And satan is using this division to try and get the Christian church to divide.

That’s the point that I am saying! This “division” is nothing new. It’s just the same old lie by satan used on a newer generation of people. KJV-Onlyists focus more on a bible translation rather than Christ.

    cryinglion,

That is the most cogent and accurate description of what is happening in the body of Christ that I’ve heard in decades. Thank you. Thank you!

You are also correct in that there WAS much criticism of the KJV 1611. By any account, it was all about demonizing Catholics. I’m not a Catholic, but I don’t think I should be so arrogant as to think they have EVERYTHING wrong. God tells us He’ll protect His word.

    Blessings to you. Excellent post.

The KJV was not even written by & for Protestants…it was written by the Anglican Church under the direction of the Roman Catholic Church. The early protestants, the Puritans & the Pilgrims, used the Protestant GENEVA Bible & Shunned the Anglican KJV. The KJV was written with the help of Catholic scholars in their compitition of the Protestant GENEVA Bible. When the Puritans & Pilgrims came to North America, they came with the Protestant GENEVA Bible NOT the KJV. Now, who’s been decieved!?

5:47 You say that “God is able to translate from one language to another”. Since God knows all languages, and that languages do change over the course of years…how is it that God cannot inspire men through the Holy Spirit to provide an updated english version of His word? I’ll bet there were people back in the day who criticized the scholars who put together the KJV. I’m sorry my friend. I believe that Satan is using this “KJV only” argument so that God’s people would be divided.

There are at least that many versions of the Bible (mostly very accurate, word for word like the ESV and NASB) in use among the membership of my church, and we’re as united as any church could be. There are no discrepancies (other than the “discrepencies” people make up to support KJV-onlyism) among the accepted English translations used by orthodox Evangelicals. If you’re going to attack something, go after the NWT.

The KJV is def the most accurate English version of the bible. Its as close as English can get and I will not compromise with the NIV or NKJV or whatever english versions they try to throw at us. People wonder why there is so much division in the church and yet i go to church and ask 5 people what version they got and at least 3 of the five have different versions… Wake up people!
